Behind Semi-flex nib
Flex nibs have accompanied fountain pens from the beginning, featuring a flexible and soft tine that allows the user to control the width of the lines through controlling the pressure applied. However, flex nibs require a lot of practice and skill to use them to their full potential without damaging the nib by applying too much pressure.
Along with the modern world's preference for using a ballpoint pen, often which made people accustomed to applying high pressure when writing, flex nibs became less favored. Wancher developed and manufactured the Sunset Matama nib with stainless steel material, allowing the nib to withstand high amounts of pressure while still being flexible to create varied line width. The Sunset Matama Stream nib was added overfeed to help ink flow even better.
Name and design Inspiration
We were inspired by the beauty of the "Sunset at Matama Coast" , a famous spot located in Bungotakada City, a city where our WANCHER office is also located. The nib was made to encompass beautiful story of this place, known as a meeting place for couples.
The horizon of the Suo-nada Sea is portrayed as the horizontal strips along the slit overlooking the Matama Coast as the sun is setting represented through the sun shape art. As you write, you can imagine the tidal waves ebbing and flowing towards the Matama shore as the ink flows slowly on the nib body.
