Sekai Aizu Urushi - Sandalwood
Sekai Aizu Urushi - Sandalwood
Description
Description
Important Note: The Sekai Aizu Urushi fountain pen was hand-crafted with the Nurippanashi technique, which only a highly experienced artisan can execute. Since no polishing step is required, sometimes it might leave the surface with a few uneven dots or show the wood texture. *Please do not mistake this with defects.*
Sekai Fountain Pen
The Sekai fountain pen is born from the aspiration to be connected and peaceful like the World Tree in many mythologies. This collection embraces the idea of connecting the world with the arts.
The base materials of the Sekai fountain pen have been carefully selected from natural precious woods from all over the world such as Ebony and Sandalwood. It is then crafted with traditional arts such as Urushi, Maki-e or decorated with high-quality Japanese Sterling Silver clip.
Aizu Urushi
The Sekai Aizu Urushi fountain pen is made in Fukushima, Japan using the Aizu Urushi technique. Aizu Urushi is one of the oldest and most famous lacquerware techniques in Japan. Originated from Aizu - a region of heavy snowfalls, Aizu Urushi has a history of over 9000 years.
Every single Sekai Aizu Urushi fountain pen is hand-painted with Suki-Urushi (translucent) by skillful craftsmen with many years of experience.
The raw urushi has a light amber color but it becomes more transparent when time passes by. The reason why our artisans use transparent urushi is that it allows us to see the beautiful wood surface underneath. With many layers of urushi applied, after a long period of 6 months, 1 year or more, your fountain pen will get more glossy and unveil the beautiful texture of natural wood. (Please see the close-up picture to see this more clearly).
Wabi-Sabi (侘寂)
In Japanese aesthetics, Wabi-sabi (侘寂) refers to the acceptance of imperfection or also called "wisdom in natural simplicity". This what you will find in our Sekai Urushi fountain pen. The natural imperfection of Urushi and wood might appear on the body of fountain pen as minor roughness or uneven spots. With the appreciation of natural materials, our artisans intended not to remove this "flawed beauty" but instead spent many months on meticulous coating to achieve the most shiny and elegant art that can last for life.
And because of this Wabi-sabi concept, the Sekai Urushi fountain pen is different from one to another so we call it a one-of-a-kind fountain pen.
Sterling Silver 925 Clip
The pen is compatible with a Sterling Silver 925 clip. When ordering this fountain pen you can choose to have it or not.
The clip is made from high-quality sterling silver in our workshop in Japan. However, our 925 silver clip is finished with a special technique of anodizing.
Our hometown Oita has been known as the largest Onsen (hot springs) town in Japan. Using the natural hot steam from those hot springs, we created a matte finish for the clip of the World Tree fountain pen.
